PLACER COUNTY, Calif. — Find the latest updates on the Mosquito Fire HERE.

Cooler temperatures and higher humidity is bolstering the firefight against the Mosquito Fire.

The wildfire is burning in both El Dorado and Placer counties, growing to more than 63,000 acres, officials said Wednesday. Containment on the blaze is at 20%.

Firefighters spent time securing their control lines along Foresthill Road corridor and mopping up the area after the fire jumped the river Tuesday and made an aggressive run toward Foresthill.

"We’re working to get them back in, but the situation is so dynamic, and yesterday was a perfect example of how things can change in an instant," said Kevin Tidwell, spokesperson for the Mosquito Fire incident.

As early as Monday, some people were losing patience with the evacuation order, but Tuesday's incident is serving as an example as to why evacuations were ordered in the first place.

"The fire that took place yesterday is a prime example why evacuations take place," said Cal Fire spokesperson Scott McLean.

The eastern side of the fire remained active Wednesday as it steadily moves into dense forest areas with dry fuels, fire officials said.

Toward the southeast corner of the fire near Stumpy Meadows, crews worked on control lines to try to cut off the fire in the Rubicon River drainage. Officials said the southern portion of the fire is continuing to hold .
